Call for Nominations: CSAA PhD Thesis Prize for China Studies 

2023 CSAA PhD Thesis Prize (Eligibility: 2021/22)

The Chinese Studies Association of Australia (CSAA) is pleased to announce a call for nominations for the Best PhD Thesis in China Studies Prize. The CSAA fosters original and quality research by PhD students in Chinese Studies at Australian universities.  A broad definition of ‘Chinese studies’ is applied. 

To support research excellence, a prize of $1000 will be awarded for the best doctoral thesis completed in 2021/22. The prize will be presented at the 2023 CSAA Conference, with the conference registration fee waived. 

Eligibility

Thesis prize nominations must be made by filling out this form here by 1 September 2023.

  • Applicants should provide a copy of their dissertation
  • Applicants should provide evidence of successful completion of their PhD at an Australian university. Applicants may be citizens of any nation.  
  • Applicants should include a supporting reference from a supervisor.
  • PhD thesis will be assessed in terms of:
    • Originality 
    • Clarity of Argument
    • Presentation of material 
    • Contribution to Chinese Studies 

Assessment

The prizes will be judged by Council Members of the CSAA. This year’s judging panel will be chaired by Professor Jing Han (Western Sydney University). The CSAA Council reserves the final decision on eligibility.
