What You Will Do

Our Global, Cultural and Language Studies department is looking for a Lecturer (teaching and administration only) in Chinese to support the Chinese Programme. This role will also have input across the wider department, with regard to administration, leadership, and developing synergies in teaching. Your main duties will be the coordination and delivery of Chinese language and related courses at a range of levels. Other responsibilities will include pastoral care of students, administrative tasks, outreach, and supervision of tutors.

Who You Are

You will have an advanced qualification (Masters or above, PhD preferred) in Chinese Studies or another relevant area. Expertise or experience in teaching translation or translation studies would be an asset. We are committed to developing globally-aware graduates, and teaching which supports students’ ability to understand and interact effectively in contemporary Chinese culture and language will be particularly appropriate. You will ideally have teaching experience at tertiary level and have native or near-native proficiency in Chinese and English, and effective interpersonal skills. Knowledge of e-learning applications and the ability to integrate technology into teaching will be highly advantageous.

The Department of Global, Cultural and Language Studies has an emphasis on Asian Studies and European and European Union Studies, studied from contemporary political, social, cultural and language perspectives. It produces graduates equipped to engage in Asia and Europe in informed and productive ways.
