Position: Chinese Art @ UNSW

Judith Neilson Chair in Contemporary Art

School of Art & Design, University of New South Wales
Job ID: 57904

UNSW Art & Design has evolved over the years to become one of the most successful Art & Design faculties in the world, ranked in the top 30 by the 2018 QS World Rankings and number one in Creative Arts by the Australian Research Council.

The Faculty has international relationships with important cultural institutions in all of the major art centres across the UK, US and greater Asia.

About the role
This is an endowed Chair at Professor Level that will deepen the intellectual rigour of research into Chinese contemporary art – and, by extension, into contemporary art in general – by supporting the scholarly investigation of Judith Neilson’s significant collection of Chinese contemporary art and its framing in an international context.

The Judith Neilson Chair in Contemporary Art aims, through research, advocacy and teaching, to advance knowledge about, and public and artistic understanding of, the work of Chinese contemporary artists, as well as their training, ideas, influence and practices.

Situated in purpose-built facilities in the heart of Sydney’s arts and cultural precinct, this role offers an unrivalled opportunity for an established academic with both a vision and a passion for research into contemporary Chinese art and culture on the international stage.

The Professor will be a recognised scholar, and will contribute to areas of the UNSW Art & Design curricula that relate to Chinese contemporary art.

The Chair will enjoy an exceptional level of access to the Judith Neilson Collection, which includes works created since 2000 by the most important and influential contemporary artists in China.

Applications close: 30 April 2017
