Western Sydney University is committed to making an impact through research excellence. As one of Australia’s largest and most vibrant student-centred and research-led Universities, Western Sydney University is establishing an Institute for the exploration and preservation of Chinese arts and culture.

The Australia-China Institute for Arts and Culture will be an internationally recognised, research intensive Institute – providing a resource for all Australians aspiring to develop their knowledge and appreciation of Chinese culture through research, education and international exchange. The Institute will consolidate and build on a wide range of existing teaching and research expertise in Chinese Literature, translation, interpretation, music composition and history within the Institute for Culture and Society, the School of Education and the School of Humanities and Communication Arts.

The Director will be responsible for developing and leading the Institute, ensuring its global success. The ideal candidate is bilingual, fluent in English and Mandarin, as well as a high-calibre, internationally recognised researcher; excited to spearhead the development of this new Institute and serve as a curator and advocate of both cultures.

The University is seeking a motivated leader, a strategic thinker, and an individual focused on achieving real research impact. As an excellent communicator, capable of developing and maintaining national and international collaborations and strong professional links with Government, industry and the community; the Director is the driving force behind the success of the Institute.

The appointment as Director, Australia-China Institute for Arts and Culture is full-time, for a fixed-term period of 5 years based at our Parramatta campus.
