Dr Nathan Woolley, curator of Celestial Empire: Life in China, 1644–1911, explores life under the Qing dynasty through the collections of the National Library of Australia and the National Library of China. The National Library of Australia’s acclaimed Chinese Collection includes rare items from the London Missionary Society, providing a unique insight into early Western impressions of China.

This is the first in a series of lectures at the NLA to accompany Celestial Empire. This series is supported by the ANU Australian Centre on China in the World.
